Dogs In A Pile Play Grateful Dead Show At Ardmore Music Hall

Dogs In A Pile held a special “Dogs Play Dead” concert last night at Ardmore Music Hall in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. The band played two sets of songs from the Grateful Dead’s live repertoire in celebration of the recently launched Play Dead streaming app.

Dogs In A Pile, whose name comes from a lyric in the Grateful Dead song “He’s Gone,” regularly incorporate Dead-related material into their live sets. As evidence of their familiarity with the Dead’s music, Monday’s April 20 concert at Ardmore Music Hall featured one DIAP debut across the show’s two sets, when “Viola Lee Blues” was played in set two.

“Blow Away” also appeared in the second set, marking the second time Dogs In A Pile covered the John Barlow/Brent Mydland-written rarity. DIAP guitarist Jimmy Law used his Irwin Certified Rosebud Diamond Series guitar, built in honor of one of Grateful Dead co-founder Jerry Garcia’s iconic instruments.

Coinciding with National Live Music Day, the Dogs Play Dead concert followed nugs’ launch of Play Dead, a dedicated app for streaming the Grateful Dead vault in high-resolution audio. Play Dead gives listeners access to newly transferred and mastered vault recordings, many of which have never been released.
