Disco Biscuits Reunite With Original Drummer Sam Altman In Portland

By Jeffrey Greenblatt May 27, 2017 10:16 am PDT

Last night The Disco Biscuits kicked off a two-night stand at the Maine State Pier in Portland, Maine. The jamtronica act treated the Bisco faithful to a jam-heavy two set show that featured a surprise appearance from an old friend midway through their second set.

The Biscuits five-song first set found the band working their way through “Little Lai,” “Shelby Rose,” and a closing run of “Astronaut” > “Helicopters” > “Astronaut.”

The four-piece act opened their second set with “Caterpillar” > “Abraxas.” Towards the end of an inverted take on “Abraxas” the band’s original drummer Sam Altman emerged as he swapped places with the Biscuits’ current drummer Allen Aucoin as they segued into “Munchkin Invasion.” Altman who parted ways with the band back in 2005, last appeared with the Disco Biscuits for a full show on December 29, 2010 during their New Year’s run at Terminal 5 in New York City, subbing in for Aucoin, who was hospitalized after suffering a serious asthma attack.

Aucoin returned to his perch behind the drum kit after their take on “Muchkin Invasion” with the band closing out their set with the pairing of “Rockafella” > “Helicopters,” returning to the stage to encore with “Spacebirdmatingcall.”
