Watch The Disco Biscuits & Karina Rykman’s Playful David Bowie Cover Performance In New Orleans

The Disco Biscuits recently capped a run of shows that culminated with a performance in New Orleans at the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts. The May 6 concert featured bassist Karina Rykman sitting in with Bisco on a rarely played David Bowie cover.

Rykman came out during the show’s first set, following performances of “Mulberry’s Dream” and “Little Shimmy In A Conga Line.” Bisco bassist marc-brownstein played the keyboard that’s part of his rig while Rykman exclusively handled bass duties on a cover of David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance.” Only played a handful of times by the Disco Biscuits and sung by guitarist Jon Gutwillig, “Let’s Dance” was stretched out with Rykman’s assistance for several minutes of groove-oriented jamming.

Rykman exited as tDB transitioned into an inverted “Confrontation.” The foursome keep going with “The Deal” and “Twisted In The Road,” landing on the ending of “Home Again” for the ending of the first set.

Set two was an uninterrupted sequence of six songs set off by “Space Train” into an inverted “Above The Waves.” The rest of tDB’s second set in NOLA consisted of “Tourists (Rocket Ship),” an inverted “Munchkin Invasion,” “Cyclone” and “To Be Continued.” The night in New Orleans was punctuated with a “Highwire” encore.

The Disco Biscuits will soon embark on their first West Coast Tour in almost 14 years. Tickets to the upcoming shows went on sale today.
