It’s official. Dead & Company will indeed reunite at the Las Vegas Sphere for the first time since ending their final tour on July 16, 2023 in San Francisco. The Grateful Dead offshoot shared a video on social feeds hinting at a forthcoming full announcement.
“In 2023, Dead & Company played their final tour,” started text in the clip. “But there are other ways to make sure the music never stops. And it’s gonna be a ball,” continued the caption ahead of images showing the Dead’s famed Steal Your Face logo surrounded by a tie-dyed background on the exterior of the state-of-the-art venue. The soundtrack featured a live performance of “Not Fade Away.”

The confirmation of the band’s upcoming return comes on the heels of a New York Post report published earlier today indicating Dead & Company will perform a 14-show residency at the Vegas Sphere. Sources told the New York Post the run will begin in May with an announcement due this week. Meanwhile, Rolling Stone reports the publication has confirmation Dead & Co. “will play at least 15 shows at the Sphere.”
Dead & Company — guitarists Bob Weir and John Mayer, bassist Oteil Burbridge, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and drummers Mickey Hart and Jay Lane — have not revealed the dates or ticketing information for the run in the teaser.

Both during the final tour and after, members of Dead & Company expressed they were open to future performances. The latest comment came from John Mayer on New Year's Eve, when he responded to a question from CNN broadcast hosts Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen asking whether fans could expect to see the band play again by stating, “Have hope is what I’ll say. Have hope … just like you should for all things in 2024.”
“Dead & Company is still a band – we just don’t know what the next show will be,” Mayer wrote on social media two days after the conclusion of the final tour. “I speak for us all when I say that I look forward to being shown the next shaft of light… I know we will all move towards it together.”
Mickey Hart also spoke about Dead & Company's future during an interview with ABC Audio posted in early July of 2023. “Who knows what the next page is, we’re just turning the page,” the drummer explained. “It’s not final anything. We never said we’ll never play again, but we’ll never tour again.”
U2 was the first artist to play the Las Vegas Sphere. Phish will make their debut at the state-of-the-art venue with a four-night run at the Sphere spanning April 18 – 21.
Stay tuned for the full announcement.
