While Dead & Company embarked on their Final Tour in 2023, members of the Grateful Dead offshoot have left the door open for future performances. Dead & Co. guitarist John Mayer called in to CNN’s New Year’s Eve Times Square broadcast hosted by Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen on Sunday from a cat bar in Tokyo and addressed the band’s future during his appearance.
Mayer ended his 2023 with a series of six solo acoustic shows at The Blue Note in Tokyo. The guitarist’s appearance on CNN came at 1:15 p.m. Tokyo time on January 1, which due to the time difference was a mere 45 minutes before the ball dropped in Times Square. John Mayer, who kept a straight face as cats climbed around him and Anderson Cooper cracked up, gave a preview of 2024.

Late in the segment, longtime Deadhead and Mayer pal Andy Cohen brought up catching Dead & Company’s final tour last summer. Cohen asked John Mayer if there was any Dead & Co. info he could share as to whether fans will see the band perform this year. “I’m not at liberty to say just yet,” the 46-year-old musician began. “But, have hope is what I’ll say. Have hope … just like you should for all things in 2024.”
Dead & Company are in talks to play the Sphere in Las Vegas according to a recent New York post report. While the paper’s sources cautioned discussions “are still in the works and not 100%,” a potential Dead & Co. residency would “kick off [this] summer.”
