David Gilmour has been spending time in the studio crafting a new solo album. The Pink Floyd guitarist’s wife, novelist and lyricist Polly Samson, shared photos on Instagram of sessions for his first new LP since 2015’s Rattle That Lock.

Gilmour can be seen working with longtime collaborators bassist Guy Pratt and pianist Roger Eno. The guitarist also recruited drummer Adam Betts (Three Trapped Tigers, Jarvis Cocker) and bassist Tom Herbert (Moats & Thrones, The Invisible and Polar Bear) to contribute to the sessions. A photo shared today shows David Gilmour in the studio with producer Charlie Andrew (alt-J).

Polly Samson confirmed she was working with Gilmour on new songs in an interview posted by Romanian website Zile Sinopti, as pointed out by Louder Sound. Samson wrote the lyrics for five songs featured on Rattle That Lock.

David Gilmour’s last new solo music was the 2020 single “Yes, I Have Ghosts.” The guitarist also participated in the 2022 Pink Floyd charity single “Hey Hey Rise Up.” Gilmour toured behind Rattle That Lock in 2015 and 2016 and has yet to return to the road since.

While fansite Neptune Pink Floyd noted the album is expected in 2024, there has been no confirmation from the Gilmour camp on when the follow-up to Rattle That Lock will arrive.
