Dave Matthews Band released their new album, Walk Around The Moon, this past Friday, May 19. The septet brought their Summer Tour in support of the LP to the Houston area that night for a concert at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion which included the live debuts of both Walk Around The Moon cut “After Everything” and a cover of the Commodores’ 1977 smash “Brick House.”

Friday’s show in The Woodlands, Texas was the first U.S. stop on the tour following a three-show run in Mexico. Dave Matthews Band opened with the recently revived “Bismarck” as they did at the Mexico finale in Guadalajara the previous Saturday. Oldies “When The World Ends,” “Pantala Naga Pampa” and “Rapunzel” came next before DMB looked to Walk Around The Moon for “It Could Happen” and “Madman’s Eyes.”

The ensuing “Jimi Thing” spanned over 10 minutes and ended with a partial take on “Brick House.” Friday’s “Jimi Thing” reached a frenetic horn-driven peak when DMB broke down the song. Bassist Stefan Lessard threw in the signature “Brick House” bassline and his bandmates followed along. Frontman Dave Matthews and keyboardist Buddy Strong traded lead vocal duties on the cover premiere. “Brick House” is the latest iconic song tacked on to the end of “Jimi Thing” with Prince’s “Sexy M.F.,” Huey Lewis & The News’ “I Want A New Drug,” Steve Miller Band’s “Fly Like An Eagle” and Sly & The Family Stone’s “I Want To Take You Higher” among others previously played.

Dave Matthews Band’s set on Friday rolled on with staples “You & Me” and “#41” split by “Virginia In The Rain.” It was then back to Walk Around The Moon for “Monsters” and the premiere of “After Everything.” The latter was the last of the album’s 12 tracks performed live by Dave Matthews Band. Later in the set DMB played “All You Wanted Was Tomorrow” and “Break Free” from their new LP.

The group closed out their main set in The Woodlands with a double dose of classics as the tour’s first “Dancing Nancies” bled into fan-favorite “Warehouse.” Dave Matthews Band played “Looking For A Vein,” the evening’s sixth song off Walk Around The Moon, to start an encore that also included the beloved “Grey Street.” Matthews and company return to the stage on Tuesday for a concert at Walmart AMP in Rogers, Arkansas.
