Dave Matthews Band launched their summer tour last night with a concert at El Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City. The septet followed a main set that incorporated three rarities by starting their encore with the live debut of “Looking For A Vein,” a song featured on DMB’s pending studio album, Walk Around The Moon.
The group went the old school route in getting Tuesday’s show underway with “Satellite” followed by “Pantala Naga Pampa” and constant companion “Rapunzel.” DMB then looked to what for now still stands as their latest studio album, 2018’s Come Tomorrow, for “Come On Come On” before treating fans to the title track of their next LP. Walk Around The Moon arrives next Friday, May 19.

Last night’s first bust out came in the form of the ensuing “Virginia In The Rain,” as the Come Tomorrow cut was last played by the full band on July 1, 2018. “Jimi Thing” was up next before DMB dug deep for their first full band “Bismarck” since August 30, 2016. The seven-piece went on to follow staples “#41” and “Grey Street” by dusting off “Busted Stuff.” The title track from the group’s 2002 LP hadn’t been performed by the complete ensemble since September 3, 2010.
After rolling through a run of “The Space Between,” “Louisiana Bayou” and “Crash Into Me,” the group offered the DMB live debut of Walk Around The Moon single “Monsters.” Guitarists Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds did trot out “Monsters” back in February at their destination event in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Matthews and his bandmates closed out last night’s main set a few songs later with the beloved “Warehouse.”
Dave Matthews addressed the crowd when the band returned for the encore. “Just because we feel like it, we’re gonna play a tiny tiny little song that we never played before,” Matthews told the audience. “It’s a tiny tiny little song and it just goes by like this (makes swooshing sound),” the frontman added and informed fans the tiny number was called “Looking For A Vein.” The septet delivered the emotion-laden third track from Walk Around The Moon and then wrapped up the night with fan-favorite “Don’t Drink The Water.”
