Watch Daniel Donato & Sierra Hull’s ‘Country Christmas’ Collaboration In Nashville

As reported, guitarist Daniel Donato hosted his Cosmic Country Christmas Jam this past Saturday night at Brooklyn Bowl in his hometown of Nashville. Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country ensemble shared the stage with an assortment of special guests including mandolinist/vocalist Sierra Hull.

Hull came out towards the middle of the concert and joined Donato and his band for three songs. Other special guests to emerge over the course of the festive show were Widespread Panic's JoJo Hermann and Duane Trucks, Anders Beck of Greensky Bluegrass, Taylor Hicks, , Grace Bowers, Mountain Grass Unit, Willow Osborne, Drew Smithers and Marty Schwartz.

Daniel Donato and Sierra Hull performed together in August as Billy & The Kids' special guests in New York City. Hull’s appearance at Donato’s Cosmic Country Christmas Jam followed her time at Strings & Sol in Mexico the previous week, which included numerous guest spots including a sit in with Greensky Bluegrass and a collaboration with Railroad Earth.

The Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country/Sierra Hull portion of Saturday’s show began with Hull channeling Loretta Lynn on “Country Christmas.” Donato provided backing vocals and Telecaster riffage, while Hull changed one of lyrics for Lynn’s 1966 holiday classic to “jam with Daniel D.”

Sierra Hull and Daniel Donato then co-helmed “Ooh Las Vegas,” a song co-written by Gram Parson and Ric Grech famously covered by Emmylou Harris. “Ooh Las Vegas” flowed into the Hull/Cory Wong collaborative composition “Over The Mountain.” The Donato debut of the gorgeous instrumental brought Hull’s time on stage and the concert’s first set to a close.
