Coldplay took the stage at Ernst Happel Stadium last night for the first of four Music Of The Spheres Tour dates in Vienna. Frontman was joined by opener Maggie Rogers for a cover of Taylor Swift‘s “Love Story” early in the night.
Ernst Happel Stadium is the same venue Swift was supposed to play earlier this month before a foiled terror plot led to the cancelation of the shows. “We haven’t mentioned that Vienna was in the news all over the world for all the wrong reasons. But what reached us was the beauty and the togetherness, and kindness of all of Taylor Swift’s fans,” Martin told the crowd.

“So we felt — of course, Taylor is in America, she’s not here — but we’re here, so we have to do the best we can do. So, I don’t want to let you think that we don’t care about Swifties in our band,” Martin continued. The Coldplay frontman plucked a pair of Taylor Swift fans from the audience to sit on stage during the tribute.
“We sing this song with so much love for Taylor, with so much love for Swifties,” Martin added. “And we sing this song with love for young people who are brainwashed into doing stupid s–t and we send them our love too.”
Chris Martin strummed the song from Swift’s 2008 album, Fearless, on acoustic and sang the first verse. Maggie Rogers came in on the chorus before letting the Swifties on stage sing a line and taking the second verse herself. The crowd turned “Love Story” into a singalong.
