Bob Dylan helped wrap the summer leg of Willie Nelson‘s Outlaw Music Festival on Saturday at The Gorge Amphitheatre in Western Washington. Dylan brought out guitarist Lukas Nelson for “Early Roman Kings” and four songs to close the set.
Dylan launched his slot with “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35.” The legendary singer-songwriter recently revived the opener from his landmark 1966 double LP Blonde on Blonde at the Outlaw stop in Nampa, Idaho. It’s an apropos song for a Willie Nelson tour.

Dylan then turned to his 1989 album Oh Mercy with a performance of “Shooting Star” followed by “Love Sick” off his acclaimed 1997 record Time Out of Mind. A pair of covers — Chuck Berry’s “Little Queenie” and The Fleetwood’s “Mr. Blue” — came next, ahead of Lukas Nelson’s first sit-in.
Lukas joined Bob for Tempest (2012) cut “Early Roman Kings.” Nelson posted up next to Dylan on piano and came in with a smoking solo about three minutes into the eight-minute romp. On the next ride, Bob offered some barroom blues piano before kicking things over to Lukas once again. Watch the performance below:
Lukas would depart as the Nobel Laureate turned to one of his best songs, “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall.” The monolithic singer-songwriter performed The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan cut for the first time since 2017 at the Outlaw Festival’s swing through Wheatland, California.

The Gorge stop also saw Dylan on his cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Stella Blue.” Nelson returned to help seal the set with a rollicking, albeit a little unsteady, rendition of John Wesley Harding standout “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight.”
Nelson stayed on for Blood on the Tracks masterpiece “Simple Twist of Fate,” Tempest’s “Soon After Midnight” and the scathing Highway 61 Revisited cut, “Ballad of a Thin Man,” to cap the performance.
