Bob Dylan – The 1974 Live Recordings is a new box set from the legendary singer-songwriter due out on September 20 through Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings. Arriving in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Dylan’s return to the road in 1974 with his renowned collaborators The Band, the massive collection is previewed with a previously unreleased performance of “Forever Young.”

Following a motorcycle accident in July 1966, shortly after completing his notorious World Tour with the group that would become The Band, Dylan ceased touring but continued to record. Part of his studio output during this period included The Basement Tapes with The Band.

Recorded in 1967, The Basement Tapes wouldn’t be released until 1975 riding the wave of Dylan and The Band’s 1974 studio album together, Planet Waves, and the subsequent tour in support of the LP. Bob Dylan – The 1974 Live Recordings includes every available soundboard recording from Dylan’s first tour in eight years.

The 30-date trek kicked off in Chicago on January 3, 1974.

“We were booed off of every stage in Europe,” The Band’s Robbie Robertson recalled of the ‘66 Tour. “What happened tonight in Chicago is so reassuring for us,” he told Newsweek at the time.

The deluxe box set of Bob Dylan – The 1974 Live Recordings boasts 431 tracks, 417 of them previously unreleased, across 27 discs. The freshly mixed recordings were pulled from the original variety of formats used to capture the tour including ¼” tape, cassette and 16-track tape. The collection contains liner notes by journalist and critic Elizabeth Nelson. Third Man Records will also release a 3-LP Highlights Box Set of unreleased songs that didn’t make the Before the Flood album via Third Man’s Vault direct-to-customer mail order service.

Previewing the sprawling collection is the beloved Dylan tune, “Forever Young,” captured during the afternoon show on February 9, 1974 in Seattle. Listen below:
