Black Pumas‘ Eric Burton and Adrian Quesada assembled their full touring band at a mostly empty Austin Public Library in their hometown for a special performance that was livestreamed on Sunday night. The eight-song set came in celebration of the one-year anniversary of Black Pumas releasing their self-titled debut studio album.
Black Pumas introduced the duo’s music to a wide audience and scored the pair Americana Honors & Awards nominations for Duo/Group Of The Year and Emerging Act Of The Year. Burton and Quesada were backed by bassist Brendan Bond, keyboardist JaRon Marshall, drummer Stephen Bidwell and vocalists Tamisha Waden and Angela Miller for the special that premiered last night.
The performance was sponsored by the Texas Lottery and produced by Margin Walker Presents and Xi Media. Black Pumas opened the festivities with the soul-laden “Next To You” before they reeled off seven of the 10 tracks from Black Pumas at the Austin Public Library. Highlights included the R&B-heavy “Touch The Sky,” a sulry take on “OCT 33” and powerful “Colors” finale.
