Black Pumas shared a cover of “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman. The Austin-based duo backed the cover with the “Steady Groovin Mix” of “Fire” from their 2019 self-titled debut album as the B-side.

“Fast Car” has been a staple of Black Pumas’ — consisting of vocalist/producer Eric Burton and guitarist Adrian Quesada — live shows. Tracy Chapman scored a top-ten hit with “Fast Car” in 1988. Chapman released the song on her eponymous debut studio album that same year.

“To me, ‘Fast Car’ is a song of hope, dreams and a relentless heart to go somewhere and be someone,” explained Burton in a press release announcing the single. “I learned the song when I first began to busk and of the covers that I knew, it garnered the most attention from the random passerby. As a musician and artist, I’m attracted to songs that make us reflect on our daily struggles for making life worth living for.” Stream “Fast Car” and “Fire (Steady Groovin Mix)” below:
