Aerosmith have officially retired from the road as the band canceled the remainder of their farewell tour. The legendary rockers announced the news on Friday, revealing frontman Steven Tyler will be unable to recover from a vocal injury sustained last year.

“As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury,” Aerosmith stated. “We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision — as a band of brothers — to retire from the touring stage.”

Aerosmith was just three shows into their Peace Out farewell tour with The Black Crowes when Tyler fractured his larynx on September 9, 2023 in Elmont, New York. The iconic band known for such hits as “Dream On,” “Walk This Way” and “Love In An Elevator” initially postponed six shows and then pushed back the entire tour before making the decision to cancel the excursion.

“We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was pumped to get on the road with us one last time,” the note from Aerosmith continued. “Grateful to our expert crew, our incredible team and the thousands of talented people who’ve made our historic runs possible. A final thank you to you — the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.”

Aerosmith formed in 1970 and embarked on a Hall of Fame induction-worthy career that included several highs and lows. Tyler was joined in the band by guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitford, bassist Tom Hamilton and drummer Joey Kramer. John Douglas subbed for Kramer on the Peace Out farewell tour.

Refunds are available via the point of purchase. Those who bought tickets via Ticketmaster will receive refunds automatically. The Black Crowes announced they will soon add more dates to upcoming their The Happiness Bastards (The Reprise) Tour.
