Seemingly on hiatus since the 2010 release of Plastic Beach and subsequent tour in support of the album, a new Gorillaz album is in the works according to the project’s mastermind Damon Albarn. The band’s fifth album is slated to be recorded this coming September Albarn confirmed in a recent interview.

Albarn spoke with Australia’s ABC 7.30, telling the outlet “I’m starting recording in September for a new Gorillaz record. I’ve just been really, really busy so I haven’t had a chance. I’d love to just get back into that routine of being at home and coming to the studio five days a week.” In January, Albarn’s Gorillaz partner Jamie Hewllet hinted at the resurrection of the band.

Albarn is in Australia with his band Blur for their first tour of the continent in nearly two decades.
