Opening Night | My Morning Jacket In Athens

By Andy Kahn May 16, 2015 8:36 am PDT

My Morning Jacket appropriately kicked off their massive world tour in support of their recently released new studio album The Waterfall by beginning the show with the first two songs on the LP, “Believe (Nobody Knows)” and “Compound Fracture.” The rest of the night saw Jim James and crew play all but two of the 10 songs on The Waterfall interspersed with songs from throughout the band’s back catalog.

Like previous tours, many stops on The Waterfall Tour are part of the band’s Spontaneous Curation Series which allows members of their Roll Call fan club and Twitter users to suggest songs for the band to play. Each of the Spontaneous Curation shows feature tracks selected by the band based on the submitted requests through the Roll Call Member Forum and show specific hashtagged tweets. Some of the rarities brought out last night included The Tennessee Fire track “Heartbreakin Man,” “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt. 2” from Evil Urges and “Phone Went West” from At Dawn. “Knot Comes Loose” off of Z was also played for the first time since 2012.
