Zac Brown Band Covers Allman Brothers Band In Georgia
By Scott Bernstein May 17, 2017 • 2:02 pm PDT
This past Friday and Saturday nights country-rockers the Zac Brown Band played a pair of shows at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park in Alpharetta, Georgia. Both nights saw the group perform their take on “Whipping Post” by The Allman Brothers Band and the cover seems to be here to stay as the ZBB played the tune again on Monday night in New York City.
Keyboardist Clay Cook handled lead vocals on the ZBB’s “Whipping Post” debut Friday night which featured guitar solos from Zac Brown, Darrell Scott and Coy Bowles. Cook did a fine job of channeling Gregg Allman on the cover. Friday’s show also included a bevy of originals with a focus on material from the just-released Welcome Home as well as covers of John Prince’s “All The Best,” Travis Tritt’s “It’s A Great Day To Be Alive,” Guns N’ Roses’ “Paradise City,” Scott’s “River Take Me,” and “Use Somebody” by Kings Of Leon.
