Yonder Mountain String Band is back with a new record set to roll down the highway on March 27. Good As True is previewed with the lead single, “Brand New Heartache,” which arrived with a vibrant video animated by Dave Razor.

The bluegrass group from Colorado’s 12th studio album, Good As True, sees YMSB leaning into long-time tenets.

“We’ve always believed in sharing the music we’re making, even if it doesn’t fit any prescribed category,” founding guitarist Adam Aijala stated.

“We’re writing songs as the ideas come to us, not going in with an intention,” banjo player Dave Johnston added, “we’re driven to write music and we’re driven to share it, that’s the constant.”

Along with their fellow founding member bassist Ben Kaufmann, Aijala and Johnston are joined on Good As True by mandolinist Nick Piccininni and newest member, fiddler Coleman Smith.

Press materials further detailed Good As True:

Across the record, Yonder moves fluidly between drive, harmony and space. Songs are shaped by the road, by experimental live moments and by trust built through decades of live experience. The album closes with “Barroom Feather,” a 16-minute track recorded live in the studio, an unbroken jam that captures the band exactly as they are now.

The first taste of Good As True is “Brand New Heartache,” a song partially inspired by a deep dive into Tom Petty following his passing. Watch Dave Razor’s gorgeous video for the song below:
