‘Willie Nelson & Family’ Docuseries Set To Premiere On Paramount+

Outlaw country icon Willie Nelson‘s extraordinary life is explored in Willie Nelson & Family, a four-part documentary series directed by Emmy-winning filmmakers Thom Zimny and Oren Moverman. Willie Nelson & Family premieres exclusively on Paramount+ starting on Thursday, December 21.

The docuseries arrives at the end of a triumphant year for Willie Nelson that saw his 90th birthday celebrated with a pair of star-studded concerts and included his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. However, the Red Headed Stranger’s career has been filled with professional and personal highs and lows. Willie Nelson & Family examines his story in ways that are at turns, according to a press release, “spiritual, dramatic and playful.”

Willie Nelson & Family had its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Nelson gave his full authorization to the filmmakers and provided them access to his archives.

The trailer for Willie Nelson & Family mixes clips and photos from the legendary musician’s past as well as footage of Willie performing onstage in 2022. Dolly Parton, Sheryl Crow, Bobby Bare, Shelby Lynne, Kenny Chesney, Don Was and Jeannie Seely each spoke with the filmmakers about Nelson’s career and appear in the trailer.

His songwriting helped shape me as a storyteller,” noted executive producer Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) in a press release. “Willie is a national treasure and his story will serve as inspiration for all those seeking their own path that leads away from the clouds of compromise. Willie has opened his life to us — warts and all — to serve as a beacon to overcoming failure, realizing dreams, and keeping your compass once the dream is achieved.”
