Governors Ball 2016 :: 6.3-4.16 :: Randall’s Island Park :: New York City, NY

As previously reported, organizers were forced to cancel yesterday’s scheduled performances at the Governors Ball Music Festival due to severe weather conditions in New York City. The weekend was not a total wash as many diverse artists were able to perform at Randall’s Island Park on Friday and Saturday. Retro-rock duo The London Souls got the action underway and Father John Misty played a number of his narrative originals. Headliners The Strokes covered The Clash and busted out their original “Red Light.” The main stage also saw alt-rocker Beck play a career-spanning set that worked in a couple of Prince covers and a David Bowie cover. Prince was also teased during Bloc Party’s energetic set.

Pop trio Haim kept the Prince tributes coming on Saturday which also saw sets from hip-hop pioneers De La Soul, folk outfit Lord Huron and electro-pop group Miike Snow. Also delivering commanding sets on Saturday included electronic-leaning M83 and rock band The Killers. Photographer Joe Russo was on hand Friday and Saturday, view his gallery below:
