‘Weird Al’ Yankovic Shares Montage Of Covers From 2018 Tour

Earlier this year, “Weird Al” Yankovic played guitar in public for the first time during a show at New York City’s famed Apollo Theater as part of a cover of Neil Young’s “Cinnamon Girl.” Yankovic’s version of “Cinnamon Girl” was one of 77 covers he performed with his band over the course of a recently completed 77-show North American Tour. The versatile musician shared a montage featuring portions of all 77 covers.

“Weird Al’s” Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour saw Yankovic and his talented ensemble focus on non-parodies. As Rolling Stone points out, the quintet began each encore with a different cover.

Yankovic, guitarist Jim “Kimo” West, bassist Steve Jay and drummer Jon “Bermuda” Schwartz played Deep Purple’s “Smoke On The Water” to start the encore at the first show on February 27 and covered Alice Cooper’s “School’s Out” to kick off the encore at the last concert on June 10. “Weird Al” & Co. pulled from various eras over the course of the tour with Foo Fighters’ “This Is A Call,” U2’s “Vertigo” and Jet’s “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” among the most recently released songs played.
