‘Weird Al’ Yankovic Makes Guitar Playing Debut At Apollo Theater

Comedy-rocker “Weird Al” Yankovic is currently in the midst of the extensive “The Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour.” Yankovic recently brought the run to the historic Apollo Theater in New York City where he did something he’s never done over the course of his illustrious career – played guitar in public.
“Weird Al” and his band have been focusing on originals instead of parodies during their current tour. However, Yankovic & Co. have made a few exceptions each night for the occasional parody and cover. For instance, the second of two shows at the Apollo on Friday saw “Weird Al” Yankovic cover Neil Young’s “Cinnamon Girl.” The famed polka musician took a stab at Young’s iconic one-note solo, which marked Al’s guitar-playing debut. Also of note, “Weird Al” Yankovic opened Friday’s concert with the “Grateful Dead” version of “Dare To Be Stupid,” the title track from his 1985 studio album in which the song was played to the tune of “Truckin’.”
