On Monday, Weezer delivered an Orange County pop-up concert at Santa Ana, California’s Constellation Room at The Observatory. The Los Angeles-born band treated those lucky enough to gain access to the 300-capacity Constellation room to several rarities, live premieres and the debut of a Hole cover.

The move makes sense as Weezer gets ready to set out on the 30th anniversary tour around their 1994 self-titled debut, known as The Blue Album. The band will perform the record in full this fall including instant classic sing-alongs like “Buddy Holly,” “Undone – The Sweater Song” and “Say It Ain’t So.”

For the Orange County pop-up — which came on the heels of a similar concert in Los Angeles with old pals Dogstar — Weezer turned to lesser played songs, live debuts and a new cover for their pop-up in the intimate setting of the Constellation room.

Weezer — guitarist Rivers Cuomo, drummer Patrick Wilson, bassist Scott Shriner and guitarist Brian Bell — came right out of the gate with a trio of bust outs off their 2014 album Everything Will Be Alright in the End. The band broke out “Cleopatra,” “Eulogy for a Rock Band” and “Anonymous” — not played since 2016, 2015 and 2014 respectively, as per SetlistFM stats.

Next, they kept the audience on their toes with a live debut of “Sheila Can Do It” from their hard rock-inspired 2021 album, Van Weezer, their latest studio LP. The band then turned to their other 2021 release, OK Human, with three songs that have only been played twice — “Here Comes the Rain,” “Bird With a Broken Wing” and “Mirror Image.”

A live debut of “Any Friend of Diane’s” off 2017’s Pacific Daydream and the first performance of “The Angel and the One” off their 2008 self-titled LP (Red Album) followed. It was then time for Weezer to revisit their 2002 record Maladroit. The first performance of “Dope Nose” since 2016 contained a “Troublemaker” tease, “Slave” was also played for the first time in eight years and “Burndt Jamb” contained a snippet of “Everybody Get Dangerous.”

After favorite “I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams” from the 1997 EP, The Good Life, Weezer turned to their first two records: The Blue Album and Pinkerton. Playing “Across the Sea” and “Falling for You” from the latter.

While they didn’t play the mega hits from The Blue Album, they did offer great tracks from the album including “No One Else,” “In The Garage,” “Holiday” and “Only In Dreams” — the latter three close the album — to wrap the main set. Weezer returned to live debut the 1998 Hole hit, “Celebrity Skin,” to conclude the Constellation Room play. Watch below:
