Ween Drummer Discusses Upcoming Reunion Shows

This Friday, Ween will take the stage at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado for the first of three shows that marks the group’s first performances since December 31, 2011. Little has been said publicly by the band members outside of guitarist Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo’s frequent posts on Facebook, but today Denver outlet Westword has posted a chat with drummer Claude Coleman Jr..

Coleman responded in typical Claude style to the circumstances that brought Ween back together, “Boognish almightily rose through the smoldering, smoking cracks of subterranean Earth and into the sky, and slapped Gene and Dean upside their heads with 25 feet of flaccid penis and told them to get their shit together. In other words, the universe more or less initiated the return of Ween.” He went on to say, “I think everyone felt the return was an inevitability. If you’ve got a business and people are lining up for miles and miles, waiting year after year on the street for you to just open and sell to them, eventually common-fucking-sense trumps ego, and you open the door to…make the world happy while feeding your family in the process. Musicians can be so self-important and uptight. There’s an old joke: ‘How do you make a musician complain? Get him a gig!’”

Claude also revealed there is not a new Ween album in the works, discussed the band’s relationship with Colorado, talked about his recovery from a terrible car accident in 2002 and what he’s expecting from those first moments back on stage. Head to Westword for the complete interview.
