Waxahatchee performed at NPR’s Tiny Desk for the first time since 2013, with Katie Crutchfield bringing a full five-piece band to focus on songs from her latest album Tigers Blood.
During her first Tiny Desk appearance a decade ago, Crutchfield performed solo with just an electric guitar. “I rolled out of the tour band … I sort of didn’t really know what I was doing at all. My amp broke in the middle [of the set],” she recalled of that 2013 performance.

Katie Crutchfield was backed by Eliana Athayde (upright bass, background vocals), Cole Berggren (piano, banjo), Spencer Tweedy (drums, background vocals), Colin Croom (pedal steel, dobro, guitar) and Clay Frankel (guitar, background vocals) for her second Tiny Desk Concert appearance. The set began with a performance of the new Waxahatchee single “Much Ado About Nothing.”
The next portion of the session was devoted to cuts from the excellent 2024 Waxahatchee album Tigers Blood. Crutchfield and her bandmates rolled through the LP’s “Right Back To It,” along with Tigers Blood’s title track and “Crowbar.” The set concluded with “Fire,” the first single from 2020’s Saint Cloud.
“I’m really happy that that exists,” Crutchfield said of her 2013 Tiny Desk appearance, “And I’m really happy to be back to show you this new version of the band.”
