Bronwyn’s New Single Rolls Down Nashville’s Infamous ‘Gallatin Road’

Bronwyn released her new single, “Gallatin Road.” The song is an ode to East Nashville’s Gallatin Road and will appear on Bronwyn’s upcoming album, Rattlin’ Bones, due out on August 14.

Two-time IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year and former Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway member, Bronwyn Keith-Hynes entered a new era under the mononym Bronwyn with Rattlin’ Bones. Her 2020 debut album, Fiddler’s Pastime, showcased her fiddle work, and her GRAMMY-nominated follow-up, 2024’s I Built A World, introduced her vocal skills.

On Rattlin’ Bones, Bronwyn focus on original songwriting. The 13 songs on Rattlin’ Bones draw from Bronwyn’s travels and her home in Nashville.

“My intention was to create a collection of songs that I would want to play live every night with my band,” Bronwyn said. “What turns me on? What would I want to listen to? And I wanted to make a record that you’d want to turn up so loud, it’d rattle your bones.”

Rattlin’ Bones was co-produced by Bronwyn and Brent Truitt at Truitt’s Nashville studio and at the Tractor Shed in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. The album features dobroist Jerry Douglas, guitarists Bryan Sutton and Frank Rische, mandolinist Harry Clark, bassists Dennis Crouch and Jeff Picker, vocalist Darrell Scott, banjoist Wes Corbett and Bronwyn’s former Golden Highway bandmate Dominick Leslie.

Contributions also came from her current touring band members, mandolinist Tristan Scroggins, banjoist Frank Evans and bassist Larry Cook.

Nashville singer Timbo joins Bronwyn on vocals for “Gallatin Road,” which also features Sturgill Simpson drummer Miles Miller.

“I felt like this song was so rooted in East Nashville energy that I decided to enlist Timbo to sing it with me,” Bronwyn revealed.

Bronwyn went on to tell JamBase:

“This song was born out of a conversation I had with some friends about Gallatin Road in Nashville, Tennessee. They had recently moved to Nashville, and were remarking on how crazy the energy was on that road in particular. I think one of us said, ‘anything goes out on Gallatin Road.’

“I took this idea into a writing session with Pat McLaughlin and it was one of the easiest songs we’ve ever written together, because that road is such a beloved and colorful place. In the first verse it starts by listing the local amenities: ‘they got weird shops, used tires/where the donut den used to be/payday loans, prescription drugs and all the delta-8 you need.’

“‘Gallatin Road’ has the feeling of a timelessly playful country duet, with a Jerry Reed groove and outlaw energy. It kicks off with a guitar lick reminiscent of Glen Campbell’s ‘Southern Nights’ and falls directly into a swampy, backbeat-heavy groove, assisted by Sturgill Simpson drummer Marcus Miller.”

Bronwyn previously released the Rattlin’ Bones singles “Sticks and Stones” and “Johnny Ray.” She is touring throughout the summer and fall.
