While guitarist Warren Haynes has spent the bulk of the past 12 months supporting his 2015 solo album Ashes & Dust, he’ll soon bring Gov’t Mule together for a Spring Tour and has started to think about the band’s next album. Warren spoke about what’s ahead for Mule in an interview with Music Radar and shared his thoughts on what he’d like the next Gov’t Mule album to contain.
When asked about the next Gov’t Mule album, Warren said “We have some conceptual ideas.” The guitarist then explained, “I have a couple of songs written that are very much departures from anything we’ve ever done. I have a feeling that the overall spirit of the record will combine some directions we’ve never explored with directions going back to the very beginning of the band.”
Haynes has always tried to explore new directions with his music as he’s released the soul-driven Man In Motion album and the more rootsy Ashes & Dust. Gov’t Mule’s last studio album, 2013’s Shout! broke new ground in that the LP was accompanied by a second version of the album featuring guest vocalists performing each song.
