Warren Haynes Uses Tiger As Part Of Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration At Red Rocks: Setlist, Photos & Videos

On Monday night a very special Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration featuring Warren Haynes was held at Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado. Not only did the show, which took place on the anniversary of Jerry’s birthday, feature an unprecedented guest-filled third set but it also saw Haynes use Garcia’s famed Tiger guitar.

Jerry Garcia’s Tiger guitar hadn’t been used in public before last night since the final Grateful Dead show on July 9, 1995. Haynes used it throughout the night as he led the Colorado Symphony Orchestra on a pair of sets and encore before the special third set. Warren Haynes, the orchestra and his core band of Jeff Sipe (drums), Lincoln Schleifer (bass), Jasmine Muhammad (vocals) and Jacklyn LaBranch (vocals) tackled such Garcia staples as “Bird Song,” “Crazy Fingers,” “Scarlet Begonias,” “Black Peter” and “Touch Of Grey” through the evening’s first two sets. The second set came to a close with a riveting “Terrapin Station” > “Slipknot!” > “Terrapin Station” sequence. Warren, the band and orchestra came back for a brief encore that included Haynes’ ode to Jerry written after Garcia’s passing, “Patchwork Quilt.”

The third set saw longtime Jerry Garcia Band keyboardist Melvin Seals join in on the fun. Haynes, Seals and various lineups of the core band ran through a set that mixed JGB and Grateful Dead classics. Saxophonist (and Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration conductor) Rich Daniels lent a hand on “That’s What Love Will Make You Do” and “Fire On The Mountain” towards the middle of the set. The night ended with Anders Beck and Dave Bruzza of Greensky Bluegrass adding to “Don’t Let Go” and “Deal.” On Thursday, CMAC in Canandaigua, New York will host the next Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration featuring Warren Haynes.

This Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET SiriusXM’s Grateful Dead channel will air an official recording of Monday’s concert at Red Rocks as part of the Days Between series.
