Warren Haynes & Railroad Earth Tackle ‘Blue Sky’

By Scott Bernstein Aug 10, 2015 12:20 pm PDT

Guitarist Warren Haynes is currently on tour with Railroad Earth. Haynes used RRE as his backing band for the recently released Ashes & Dust studio album. Most shows on the tour have started with a set from Railroad Earth followed by a set featuring a few solo Warren songs before the New Jersey jamgrass act emerges to back the guitarist. A number of performances have seen Haynes and RRE cover “Blue Sky” by The Allman Brothers Band.

Warren and Railroad Earth’s cover of “Blue Sky” usually comes towards the end of the joint set. Haynes is no stranger to the song having performed it hundreds of times during his tenure with The Allman Brothers Band and many times with Phil Lesh & Friends. The ensemble’s take on “Blue Sky” thrives thanks in part of Tim Carbone’s fiddle work and the banjo stylings of Andy Goessling. Haynes shares lead vocals on the tune with RRE’s Todd Sheaffer.
