Warren Haynes Presents Wake Up With Warren Set At Peach Music Festival
By Scott Bernstein Aug 14, 2016 • 1:06 pm PDT
Sunday marks the final day of this year’s Peach Music Festival at Montage Mountain in Scranton, Pennsylvania. One tradition of the festival is a special set to start Sunday morning off. Past Sunday morning sets have featured Warren Haynes (2012 and 2014) and Bob Weir (2013 and 2015). The Warren > Bobby > Warren trend continued with a “Wake Up With Warren” set in Scranton on Sunday morning.
Haynes focused on originals throughout his nine-song main set. Warren opened with “The Real Thing,” a song he contributed to the 2001 Phil Lesh & Friends album There And Back Again. He then pulled “Beautifully Broken” from Gov’t Mule’s Deep End era and the Ashes & Dust gem “Glory Road.” The guitarist continued with a solo acoustic presentation of his ode to Jerry Garcia, “Patchwork Quilt” and the early Gov’t Mule classics “Raven Black Night” and “In My Life.” The set came to a close with Warren’s performances of two songs he contributed to The Allman Brothers Band, “Old Friend” and “End Of The Line.”
Warren Haynes saved the covers for the encore. He kicked off the final installment of the show with his take on Van Morrison’s “Into The Mystic,” a song he’s sung with a bevy of projects including Gov’t Mule, Phil Lesh & Friends, The Dead and The Allman Brothers Band. The same can also be said of the set’s closing number, which may indeed be Warren’s signature song, “Soulshine.” Tonight, Gov’t Mule closes out the Peach Stage at this year’s Peach Music Festival with an extended set.
