Classic rock band ZZ Top and jam scene staples Gov’t Mule continued a joint tour together last night with a performance at the Starlight Theater in Kansas City. Tuesday’s concert featured the tour’s first collaboration as Mule guitarist Warren Haynes emerged to sit-in with the headliners during their final song of the evening.

Haynes and his band opened the show with a set that began with “Mule” and progressed through such favorites as “Banks Of The Deep End,” “Broke Down On The Brazos,” “Thorazine Shuffle” and “Soulshine.” The headliners delivered the typical set of songs they’ve played at other stops on the tour, opening with “Got Me Under Pressure” and proceeding through classics like “Jesus Just Left Chicago,” “Gimme All Your Lovin,'” “Cheap Sunglasses” and “Legs.” ZZ Top’s set also featured covers of “Foxy Lady” and “Sixteen Tons” as well as an encore made up of their hits “La Grange” and “Tush.”

One additional cover was in store last night as ZZ Top returned to the stage for a second encore accompanied by Haynes who added guitar to Elvis Presley’s “Jailhouse Rock.”
