The Ashes & Dust Tour featuring guitarist Warren Haynes and the Ashes & Dust Band composed of drummer Jeff Sipe and members of ChessBoxer made a stop at the Crest Theatre in Sacramento, California Saturday night. The performance saw the outfit’s debut performance of a well-known song originally recorded by The Beatles.
The one-set show opened with the Ashes & Dust LP’s opening track “Is It Me Or You” which was followed by Haynes’ “Patchwork Quilt.” Gov’t Mule’s “Banks Of The Deep End” preceded a pair of The Allman Brothers Band covers “Blue Sky” and “Dusk Till Dawn.” Covers of Little Feat, Grateful Dead and Gillian Welch as well as the Ashes & Dust cut “Company Man” came before the ensemble’s debut rendition of The Beatles’ “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.” The classic Sgt. Pepper’s tune included a “Troubled Mind” jam which was played ahead of the subsequent take on the ABB’s “Instrumental Illness.”
The set concluded with Fleetwood Mac’s “Gold Dust Woman” and the Ashes & Dust track “Spots Of Time” and The Allmans’ instrumental “Jessica.” A take on Tom Waits’ “Get Behind The Mule“ served as the encore in Sacramento. Here’s audience-shot video of “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” from the show last night posted by Vernon Garcia:
