Warren Haynes Covers Grateful Dead With Guest In Indianapolis

By Scott Bernstein Sep 24, 2015 8:00 am PDT

On Wednesday night Warren Haynes continued the latest leg of his touring in support of Ashes & Dust at the Murat Theatre in Indianapolis. Just like opening night, the show featured Haynes backed by the Ashes & Dust Band which includes drummer Jeff Sipe and Americana act ChessBoxer. Warren switched it up a bit between the Kansas City show and last night’s performance and welcomed a special guest for a Grateful Dead cover as part of the encore.

Warren Haynes and the Ashes & Dust Band kicked off the evening with a cover of Neil Young’s “Revolution Blues.” Gov’t Mule debuted their cover of the song back on Halloween as part of a tribute to Young and have since played the tune a handful of times. The ensemble worked Bill Monroe’s “Jerusalem Ridge” within the Neil cover. Other songs that were played on Wednesday but not on Tuesday were “Company Man,” “Hallelujah Boulevard,” “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight” (Bob Dylan) and “Word On The Wind” as well as a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Loser.” Warren and the band were joined by opener Gill Landry for their take on “Loser” as part of an encore that also included a cover of The Allman Brothers Band’s “Jessica.”

The tour continues tonight at Newport Music Hall in Columbus. We’re giving away five pairs of tickets to shows on Warren’s current tour. Each of the five winners will get one pair of tickets to the upcoming show of the winner’s choice. Head here for our recent chat with drummer Jeff Sipe.
