Charlie Puth Puts On ‘Tiny Desk Concert’ Clinic For NPR Music

Charlie Puth pulled through NPR Music to perform a Tiny Desk Concert while backed by a seven-person band. The live set featured fresh arrangements of his songs from across the singer-songwriter’s popular catalog.

Puth played keyboard while supported by drummer Cedric Thompson, guitarist Jan Ozveren, bassist Brandon Brown, keyboardist/music director Darek Cobbs, and backing vocalists Olivia Tapia, Lorea Turner and Blakley.

“Thank you, Tiny Desk, for inviting me on here,” Puth said during the session. “I’ve always dreamed of doing this. Exactly like this. I’ve heard these arrangements in my head and I’ve been saving them for this.”

The set began with “We Don’t Talk Anymore” from Puth’s 2016 debut album, Nine Track Mind, which he said was “the version I wish came out.” Puth then turned to his second album, 2018’s Voicenotes for a live take on “Attention.”

Puth next transformed his collaboration with rapper Wiz Khalifa from the Furious 7 soundtrack “See You Again,” into a gospel-tinged ballad. The last song Puth performed for Tiny Desk was “Changes” from his fourth album, Whatever’s Clever!, released in March.
