Gov’t Mule frontman Warren Haynes is the latest addition to the 2019 Newport Folk Festival lineup. Haynes will perform at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island on Friday, July 26. The festival runs through Sunday, July 28.
For this year’s event, the Newport Folk Festival has partnered with each act on the lineup to donate to a music education cause of their choosing. The Newport Festivals Foundation made a donation on behalf of Haynes to benefit Little Kids Rock. The donation will support Little Kids Rock’s Modern Band programs in NYC public schools. “Modern Band teaches kids to perform, improvise and compose using the popular styles that they know and love including rock, pop, reggae, hip hop, R & B and other modern styles,” as per an announcement on the festival’s website.
Read a note from Warren about Little Kids Rock:
“Knowing how influential music has been in my life, its upsetting that due to lack of resources like instruments or teachers, many children don’t have the access to music education. Little Kids Rocks helps remove the barriers standing between many students and their dreams of being able to learn about and play music.”
Haynes made a surprise appearance at the last year’s festival. Warren also performed at Newport with the in 2007. Phil Lesh and The Terrapin Family Band, Trey Anastasio, Sheryl Crow, Jeff Tweedy and Mountain Man are among the other acts on this year’s bill. Tickets to the 2019 Newport Folk Festival are sold out.
