The War On Drugs Opens Los Angeles Show With Tom Petty Tribute

Rockers The War On Drugs have a sound not too far a field from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, so fans wondered if the band would honor Petty when their tour resumed on Thursday night. The question was answered pretty quickly, as The War On Drugs opened Thursday’s show at The Greek in Los Angeles with a tribute to Tom Petty.

Guitarist Adam Granduciel led The War On Drugs through “Time To Move On” at the start of Thursday’s concert. Granduciel & Co. picked a song from Petty’s 1994 solo effort Wildflowers, which the Heartbreakers only played a few times on their recently completed 40th Anniversary Tour. The War On Drugs wound up turning in a 15-song main set in Los Angeles followed by an encore of “Brothers,” “Red Eyes” and “In Reverse.” Next up for the band is a performance at The Greek in Berkeley on Friday night.
