Vulfpeck Spends ‘Tokyo Night’ With Maya Delilah At Fuji Rock Festival

Vulfpeck performed in Japan for the first time on Saturday, when they headlined the Fuji Rock Festival. The Michigan-bred ensemble brought out English singer-songwriter Maya Delilah for the location-appropriate Vulfmon cut “Tokyo Night” during their career-spanning performance.

Fuji Rock is one of just three concerts Vulfpeck has on the books in 2025, following their Red Rocks show earlier this month and return to New York City's Madison Square Garden on September 13. Founding members Jack Stratton, Theo Katzman, Woody Goss and Joe Dart were joined by regular collaborators Cory Wong, Antwaun Stanley, Joey Dosik and Jacob Jeffries at the festival in Yuzawa, Japan.

Vulfpeck looked to 2016’s The Beautiful Game for the trifecta of “Animal Spirits,” “Cory Wong” and “Daddy, He Got A Tesla” that kicked off their first-ever performance in Japan. The band then played “Lonely Town” off 2018’s Hill Climber before rolling through “Tender Defender,” one of six songs from their recently released Clarity Of Cal album to make the Fuji Rock setlist.

Antwaun Stanley took the stage next to lead his bandmates through the beloved “1612,” The Joy Of Music, The Job Of Real Estate (2020) standout “3 On E” and oldie “Wait For The Moment.” Jack Stratton then addressed the crowd and informed Fuji Rock, “We have to play this song, but we need a special guest” before introducing Maya Delilah. “This is not an optional song,” Stratton added.

Maya Delilah handled the vocals on “Tokyo Night” originally sung by Evangeline on Vulfmon’s 2024 album Dot. Vulfmon is the side project/alter ego of Jack Stratton. Jacob Jeffries and Joey Dosik both contributed to the studio version of “Tokyo Night.”

After Delilah’s guest spot, Vulfpeck returned to Clarity Of Cal for a run of “Big Dipper,” “Matter Of Time,” “In Real Life” and “This Is Not The Song I Wrote.” The latter two were split by Dosik fronting the band on his solo number “Running Away.” It was then back to the Vulfmon catalog for “How Much Do You Love Me?” A blistering “Christmas In L.A.” came next ahead of Clarity Of Cal’s “New Beastly” and a set-closing “Back Pocket.” Vulfpeck said farewell to Japan with a “Dean Town” encore and gave a group bow as a recording of “Welcome To Vulf Records” aired over the speakers.
