Video | Widespread Panic Debuts Cease Fire In Oakland
By Scott Bernstein Mar 21, 2015 • 11:10 am PDT

Widespread Panic’s second set on Friday night included “Cease Fire,” a tune the band’s official Twitter feed referred to as “new original song, First time played.” However if “Cease Fire” seemed at all familiar to Panic fans, it’s for good reason. Frontman John Bell had delivered “Cease Fire” raps twice during the band’s 1999 Spring Tour. The first instance took place April 20, 1999 at the Orlando House Of Blues before “Goin’ Out West” and the second went down May 6, 1999 at the North Myrtle Beach House Of Blues out of “Vacation.” The raps were recited over hard-driving minor-keyed jams not too far off from the climax of last night’s debut. As Burnthday notes, there was also a “Cease Fire” jam recently before “Barstools & Dreamers” on January 26, 2015 during Panic En La Playa.

“Cease Fire” joins previous original debuts of “Jamais Vu” and “Street Dogs For Breakfast” from earlier this tour and “I Swear It Wasn’t Me,” which was unveiled back in January at Panic En La Playa as the four new songs Widespread Panic has performed this year.
Widespread Panic concludes a three-night stand at Oakland’s Fox Theater tonight. Stay tuned for more coverage of the run. As always, the Georgia rockers are providing a free audio webcast of this evening’s performance. Tune in here around 8 p.m. PT:
