Video | Robert Hunter Plays Ripple At Songwriters Hall Of Fame

Last night at ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter and vocalist/guitarist Jerry Garcia were among the class of artists inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame. Bobby Braddock, Willie Dixon, Toby Keith, Cyndi Lauper and Linda Perry were inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame.




The 46th annual Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony also saw Van Morrison, Lady Gaga and Nate Ruess among those receiving honorary awards. Some of the presenters included Bernie Taupin who spoke about Willie Dixon while Stephen Colbert honored country star Toby Keith. It was Zac Brown who had the honor of inducting the famed writing team of Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia and also performing their song “Casey Jones.”

According to reports, Hunter (who was joined by Garcia’s daughter Trixie Garcia) said in his acceptance speech, “A song cannot emerge in any time but its own … It can take a lifetime to grasp that or an instant, whichever is longer.” He then performed “Ripple” which you can watch below thanks to YouTube user David Allen:
