Video | My Morning Jacket Jams Out Steam Engine In Knoxville

On Saturday My Morning Jacket brought The Waterfall Tour to Knoxville for a sold-out show at the Tennessee Theatre. As we noted the band delivered a jammed out “Steam Engine” as part of a six-song encore that included a cover of “Funny How Time Slips Away,” a tune popularized by Willie Nelson.

Video of Saturday’s “Steam Engine” has surfaced and it shows off the band’s improvisational prowess as MMJ extends the It Still Moves track for nearly 20 minutes. The jam section of “Steam Engine” begins with guitarist Jim James leading the exploration before Carl Broemel busts out his saxophone. Eventually, the band strays from typical “Steam Engine” territory into a gripping and dark, minor-key jam space. There’s even an intense peak before James starts singing “Funny How Time Slips Away.” Watch fan-shot video of the lengthy “Stream Engine” thanks to Zachary Hanson:

Last night My Morning Jacket headlined the final night of this year’s Hangout Music Festival in Orange Beach, Alabama. The band played a total of 14 songs including seven off The Waterfall and seven classics such as “One Big Holiday,” “Wordless Chorus” and “Off The Record.”
