San Francisco’s Outside Lands music festival kicked off yesterday in Golden Gate Park. The festival’s first day featured an amazing mix of bands spread across four stages and culminated with a career-spanning, near three-hour set from Paul McCartney. Before Macca went on, The National delivered an impressive performance that saw guest spots from The Kronos Quartet as well as Bay Area icon Bob Weir.
Weir sat in with The National on a version of 2010’s “Terrible Love” that closed the set. Fan-shot footage of the guest spot has surfaced:
The National’s Aaron and Bryce Dessner are curating a Grateful Dead tribute album featuring indie bands that’s in the works.
We’ll have a full report of Outside Lands, including galleries from two top photogs, in the coming days.
