Vampire Weekend Debuts Bruce Springsteen Cover In Philadelphia

By Scott Bernstein Sep 5, 2019 7:30 am PDT

Vampire Weekend debuted a geographically-appropriate cover of Bruce Springsteen‘s “Streets Of Philadelphia” on Wednesday night at The Mann Center For The Performing Arts in Philadelphia. The Boss wrote “Streets Of Philadelphia” for the soundtrack of the 1993 film Philadelphia and the song scored Springsteen four Grammy Awards and an Oscar.

Last night’s concert consisted of 27 songs, including nine from the band’s recent studio album, Father Of The Bride. The straight-forward rendition of “Streets Of Philadelphia” came 10 songs in and led the crowd to chant “Bruce” after it was over. Frontman Ezra Koenig handled lead vocals. Vampire Weekend previously covered Springsteen’s “I’m Goin’ Down” dozens of times.
