Last night, road warriors Umphrey’s McGee began their latest round of touring at The Augusta Commons in Augusta, Georgia. Guitarist Marcus King of opening act The Marcus King Band sat-in with UM during a show that also featured a tribute to the 50th anniverrsary of one of rock’s greatest albums.

Umphrey’s kicked off their first of two sets with “2nd Self” and continued on with “Mad Love” and “Intentions Clear.” Guitarist Brendan Bayliss then led the sextet through “No Diablo” ahead of fan-favorites “Sociable Jimmy” and “Tribute To The Spinal Shaft.” UM ended the first set with the more recent original “Speak Up” and rarity “Thin Air.”

King’s guest spot came as part of Umphrey’s second set in Augusta. The South Carolina native emerged in the middle of the set to add to a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking.” UM hadn’t performed the Stones song since March 11, 2016 – a span of 125 shows. Marcus took the first solo and then engaged in a call-and-response sequence with Jake Cinninger. Video of the sit-in captured for Periscope is currently viewable here.

“Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” came within a “Bridgeless” sequence that also included “Booth Love” and “Resolution.” The jam stalwarts had one more big surprise in store as part of their encore. Umphrey’s followed “The Triple Wide” with their first ever rendition of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)” off The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The famed Beatles album was released 50 years prior.
