Umphrey’s McGee Teams With Nashville Symphony Orchestra Memebers In Tennessee

On Saturday evening Umphrey’s McGee held the third show of a three-night swing through Tennessee with a concert at Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville. The special three-set affair saw the sextet joined for the entire second set by members of the local Nashville Symphony Orchestra.

UM started the show with “Bridgeless” before moving into “Made To Measure.” The seven-song opening set was capped with a cover of “Reelin’ In The Years” by Steely Dan.

The second set featured a four-piece string section composed of members of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. Aided by a pair of violins, a cello and viola, UM opened the guest-aided portion of the show with “Deeper.” A string-filled take on “Educated Guess” came next before guitarist Brendan Bayliss went acoustic for takes on “Rocker” and “Hajimemashite.” A rain storm kicked in to coincide with the set-closing rendition of the multi-sectional “Mantis.”

It was an all-UM third set that began with “Wappy Sprayberry” > “JaJunk.” Relative newcomer “Speak Up” came ahead of a pair of longtime staples “August” > “Out Of Order.” The third and final set drew to a close with “In The Kitchen” and the ending of the show opening “Bridgeless.” In a nod to the wet weather, Led Zeppelin’s “Fool In The Rain” was selected for the encore.

Here’s a brief clip of “Rocker” captured by memphish and parts of “Mantis” via kcollins17 and babby113, plus a few audience-shot photos from Nashville:
