Umphrey’s McGee Debuts Soundgarden Cover & Welcomes Guests At Summer Camp

Umphrey’s McGee had a few treats in store for their final set of this year’s Summer Camp Music Festival on Sunday, as they teamed with a pair of special guests for a Tyler Childers cover and went on to premiere a Soundgarden cover. The set took place during the afternoon on the Sunshine Stage at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, Illinois.

The sextet took the stage to the sounds of Kid Rock’s “Bawitdaba” before launching into “Roctopus.” Guitarist Jake Cinninger then led the group through “40’s Theme” ahead of “The Silent Type.” After a run through “Day Nurse,” Umphrey’s brought out vocalist Arlo McKinley and Yonder Mountain String Band fiddler Allie Kral for their second ever rendition of Childers’ “Whitehouse Road.” The band’s only previous performance of the song from Tyler’s 2017 debut album Purgatory took place earlier this year in Nashville.

Umphrey’s cleared the stage for a well-jammed “Utopian Fir” that bled into “Hajimemashite.” Next, the six-piece worked the classic “Resolution” into the end of “Puppet String,” which they had started the previous day and left unfinished. Cinninger then starred on “Glory” before drummer Kris Myers handled vocals on the UM debut of Soundgarden’s “Outshined.”
