Umphrey’s McGee Debuts Stone Temple Pilots Cover At Holidaze

By Scott Bernstein Dec 7, 2015 6:25 am PST

Late last week Scott Weiland died while on tour which led to many tributes to the former Stone Temple Pilots frontman. One such tribute took place at the 2015 installment of Dominican Holidaze at the Breathless Resort & Spa in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic on Sunday night.

Umphrey’s McGee debuted a cover of Stone Temple Pilots’ 1992 smash “Plush” as their encore on Sunday night. “Plush” joins “Interstate Love Song” as the only STP songs UM has ever covered. Guitarist Jake Cinninger sang “Plush” last night as he did a few weeks back at a solo show in Chicago.

“Plush” wasn’t the only debut for Umphrey’s last night as they also debuted new original “Attachments” within the first set. The instrumental “Flamethrower” opened the action on Sunday as it returned after a 63 show absence. Heavy-hitters “Sociable Jimmy,” “Bright Lights, Big City” and “Hurt Bird Bath” all came during the opening stanza. The main focus of the second set was a “Nothing Too Fancy” sequence that saw “Remind Me” and “Plunger” > “Upward” > “Plunger” within. Following “Plush,” Umphrey’s said farewell to the D.R. with the fitting “Gulf Stream.”

Stay tuned for more from Sunday at Dominican Holidaze.
