Photos & Video: Umphrey’s McGee Debuts Rush Cover With Jennifer Hartswick At Red Rocks Finale

On Sunday evening Umphrey’s McGee wrapped their first-ever three-night stand at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado. UM once again welcomed a special guest to the majestic venue’s stage as Jennifer Hartswick joined the band for a debut cover of a song originally performed by Rush.

Picking up after Saturday’s guest-filled affair that saw Umphrey’s joined by members of opening act Snarky Puppy and steel guitarist Roosevelt Collier, Sunday’s festivities got underway with an opening performance by Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers. The headliners followed by beginning their first set with a combination of “Nipple Trix” > “Get In The Van.” UM next paired “Speak Up” with “Booth Love,” followed by the heavy instrumental “Wizard Burial Ground.” Guitarist Brendan Bayliss then led the sextet through their classic “August” ahead of “Cut Off” and the set one closer “Ocean Billy.”

UM started their final 2017 Red Rocks set with a rendition of “Attachments” that was trailed by “Day Nurse” and “2nd Self.” The show continued with JHa joining UM on vocals for a debut cover of Rush’s classic “Red Barchetta.” Following the sit-in, guitarist Jake Cinninger took the band through his “Mulche’s Odyssey” and the set progressed with Bayliss taking lead on the longtime staple “Slacker” and a take on “Plunger.” Hartswick returned once more to help sing the patented UM mash-up “Electric Avenue To Hell,” which served as the set closer. The Red Rocks audience was also treated to an encore offering of “Puppet String” with a glorious “Glory” played within.
