Umphrey’s McGee Busts Out Lionel Richie Cover At Penn’s Peak

By Scott Bernstein Feb 12, 2016 6:55 am PST

Last night Umphrey’s McGee continued a cross-country tour with TAUK at Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. The Chicago sextet’s second set included the band’s first cover of Lionel Richie’s 1983 smash “All Night Long” in 126 shows.

Umphrey’s came out of the gates with the evening’s initial bust out as they played the instrumental intro “Jekyll & Hyde” for the first time since October 29, 2014. The 2016 debut of “Sociable Jimmy” was up next as part of a set that also featured 2016 debuts of “Water” and “Thin Air.” “Bridgeless” led off the second set and gave way to the 2016 debut of “Go To Hell.” To end the second set, Umphrey’s transitioned from a dance-rock jam out of “Intentions Clear” into their first take on “All Night Long” since October 17, 2014. Guitarist Jake Cinninger played percussion on the Lionel Richie cover as he usually does for “All Night Long.” UM sent fans on their way with a “Soul Food I” > “Bridgeless” (ending) encore. The tour continues tonight in Washington, D.C. A webcast is available via TourGigs.
