Umphreys McGee And Lettuce Collaborate In Florida

Marking the end to their first joint two-night stand, Umphrey’s McGee and members of the opening jazz-funk outfit Lettuce collaborated last night in Saint Augustine, Florida. Originally scheduled to be held at Fort Clinch in nearby Fernandina Beach, the bands were forced to move to Saint Augustine Amphitheatre due to issues with permits. With no sit-ins Friday night (outside of Lettuce drummer Adam Deitch joining members of UM side-project Omega Moos) it wasn’t until midway through the headliner’s second set that the musicians met up on stage.
After opening set two with “The Triple Wide” > “Upward” and “40’s Theme,” Lettuce members Eric Bloom (trumpet), Jesus Coomes (vocals), Nigel Hall (keyboards) and Ryan Zoidis (saxophone) were brought on to augment Umphrey’s on a cover of Nate Dogg’s “I Got Love.” It was only the third time UM had played the G-funk cover and the first time in almost 200 shows. The rest of the set also saw a “Jimmy Stewart” with lyrics inside “Much Obliged” and the band finish “Nothing Too Fancy” and the closer “1348,” both of which had been started in the first set. Prior to the “Divisions” encore Umphrey’s revealed they’d return to Florida this summer for a show August 21 in Miami and shows August 22 -23 in Orlando.
